Aternal-Abyss.net was officially registered on May 19, 2008 through Host Monster.
Originally, Aternal Abyss was the name of my mini sub-domain (created June 12, 2006) while I was being hosted by Kokoro of baka-saru.net. It didn't even start out as one as when I originally wanted to make a site, it was for my web graphics site, Eternal Dragon, and my mp3 rotation site, Kurayami no Tenshi. (both sites are currently inactive) Over time, as I made more sites, most being fanlistings, I was having more trouble keeping track of everything, so I thought that I should make a mini sub-domain site and keep everything in check that way.
It didn't exactly work out like the way I planned, considering how lazy I became with updating that. There was even a blog on it, but I decided to just stop updating that section as I never really typed much and I no longer had the desire to. At that point, it pretty much became the home for my fanlistings -- showing both the ones that I joined and ones that I owned.
It's pretty much been that way, until mid-April, I wanna say -- somewhere 'round there. I tried checkin' up on my FLs through Enthusiast, but when I tried to get to that page, all I got was a blank page. The same thing happened to ALL my sites that were in a separate folder within my sub-domain, so I was really confused. I then tried to log into the FTP and when I kept saying that my login info wasn't correct or somethin', which wasn't the case as Kokoro gave the same info that she used to get into the FTP.
Then when I e-mailed her about it, she mentioned that she had tried to contact me sooner and told me that the domain was going to expire soon and that she wasn't going to renew it because of college and such. I was a little upset by that, but it's her domain, so it's up to her what she wants to do with it. Didn't exactly help that she tried e-mailing me, but I never got the message, as she sent it to "icerydragon@hotmail.com," which I haven't been able to get access to since February 9.
So that part's my fault as I never mentioned that my hotmail account got hacked into, but of course, I never expected for her domain to be expiring and her not renewing it either. Funny, that wasn't the part that even really pissed me off. The part that annoyed me was the fact that since I didn't find out sooner, I pretty much lost the member lists to ALL my FLs and to the FLs that I joined as there wasn't a way to recover them without access to the phpMyAdmin.
In other words, with the FLs, I have to re-add everything in COMPLETELY by hand. T.T And the people who joined my FLs? Well, I did keep a list for a few of my more smaller FLs, but those aren't up to date, so there were members lost. In those cases, it wasn't a complete lost. With my larger and/or newer FLs, ALL members were lost, so hopefully they'll rejoin when the find the new link. ^^;
Because of this, it left me a dilemia of buying my own domain, finding a new host/hostess, or just letting all my sites die. With finding a new host/hostess, I KNEW that I had a big problem. Two of my sites, Crescendo (my La Corda D'Oro fansite) and Comedy Is Love (my Lovely Complex fansite) were OVER a gig, and that doesn't include music or episodes (not that I uploaded them directly to Kokoro's domain anyway...), so I knew that not many people would want to host someone who takes up that much space. Didn't help that I wanted to find a host who'd be willing to host ALL my sites, as having more than one host would drive me nuts.
I didn't want to have my sites die as I love all of them and Crescendo, being my LARGEST site, was the site I put the most work into, so I would have been really upset if I HAD to close it down. Despite the fact that I'm losing interest in the series; I still like the series, just not as much as I used to. So, since I didn't want to have my sites die, if I could help it, that left me with either buying a domain or find a new host/hostess.
With buying a domain, to be honest, I'd always had a desire to get a domain ever since I got into web design, but since I was under 18 at the time (heck, I was only in 8th grade) and didn't have a credit card of my own, I knew that my parents wouldn't let me get one. Even though I'm 19 now and have my own credit card, I always hesitated with actually buying one considering that I didn't even know what to even call the domain for the longest time and I constantly worried 'bout how I might just neglect it and not update, hence money goin' down the drain~~ XP
I was determined at that point, since the other two options weren't in my favor, to just go and purchase a domain. Took me a few days of convincing myself that it was in my best interest to get one. That, left me with another problem: where should I buy my domain? It took me like two weeks to actually find one that I actually liked and it was so~ much fun trying to balance finding a place to purchase a domain with finals (May 5-10), my cosplay projects, packing (at school)/unpacking (at home) my stuff from college, and actually getting 'round to getting rid of a TON of crap from my room at home. I'm being sarcastic, if you didn't notice. :P
After much struggle with finding a host that I ACTUALLY liked, I finally found Host Monster, which I loved what they had to offer, so I finally decided to register my domain through them. It was a good thing that I liked Aternal Abyss, or else.. I really wouldn't know what else I could have registered my domain as. ^^
